栄久食品の歴史は、1967年に宇都宮大学近くで開業したラーメン店から始まりました。創業者である桑野久（くわの ひさし）と綾子（あやこ）夫妻が出会ったのは東京の町。独立心溢れる料理人であった久は、兼ねてより自分の店を持ちたいと考えていたため、自分の故郷である栃木県へ戻り、夫婦二人でこのラーメン店を立ち上げました。

当時の主な客層は、金銭的に余裕のない大学生たち。桑野夫婦は、彼らに温かく栄養のある食事をリーズナブルな価格で提供することに尽力しました。その良心ぶりは、時には支払いのできない学生の後払いにも応じるほど。そうしたお客さんに寄り添う二人の姿勢が評判となり、地元でも広く支持されていきました。中でも特に評判を集めたのが、AQ餃子のルーツである「手作り餃子」。この餃子は瞬く間に地元で人気となり、“桑野の餃子”を求めて連日多くの人々が足を運ぶようになりました。

やがて、餃子が大きなビジネスチャンスになると確信した桑野夫婦は、自宅隣の土地を購入し、小さな餃子工場を設立。主に地域の主婦たちを雇用し、手作り餃子を量産する体制を整えました。栃木県内を中心に売り上げを伸ばす中、県外にも販路を広げたことで評判はさらに高まることに。こうして栄久食品の餃子は、“宇都宮で最も人気のある餃子”と称されるようになり、その地位を確立していきました。創業から30年、宇都宮が「餃子の街」として全国的に知られるようになった頃には、既に圧倒的な人気を博していた栄久食品は、その中心的存在として名を広めていました。

2000年には、久と綾子の娘・幸枝が、アメリカのハイテク企業でリモートワークをしていたハンガリー系アメリカ人のアルバートと結婚。これを機に、定年を控えた桑野夫妻は栄久食品の経営をアルバートに託すことに。アルバートの経営手腕により、伝統の手作り餃子の味を守りながらも、効率化やマーケティングを強化することに成功。近代的なテクノロジーを取り入れることで、沖縄から北海道まで多くの人々に愛される餃子ブランドへと成長しました。

先代からの思いを胸に、栄久食品は間もなく創業60周年という節目を迎えます。現在、栄久食品は宇都宮工場に加え、日光の最新鋭の製造施設を新設。創業当初から変わらない愛情を込めた「手作りジャンボ餃子」など伝統の味を大切にしながらも、現代の品質基準と技術を取り入れた、様々なサイズや味の餃子を生産しています。

The history of AQ Foods started in 1967 with a ramen shop near Utsunomiya University. Hisashi and Ayako Kuwano had just returned from Tokyo to Hisashi's native Tochigi prefecture. He was a strong-minded chef with an independent streak not interested in working for someone else, so opening their own food business was a natural choice.

They provided warm and nourishing meals to their customers, many of whom were students from the University, at very reasonable prices (often at a price to be paid later for hungry students perpetually short on cash!). Among the foods they made, the hand-made gyoza became a local legend, and people would come in just to eat Hisashi's famous gyoza.

They soon realized the great potential of gyoza would provide them more opportunity for growing the business, and also give them more freedom (not being tied to restaurant hours meant they could eat lunch and dinner with their family at normal hours too!) So they bought land next to their house and opened a small gyoza factory. Recruiting the local housewives who were eager for work close to home, they started making more and more gyoza and distributing it within Tochigi and beyond. The legend of AQ gyoza spread and it became the most popular gyoza in Utsunomiya (before Utsunomiya was famous for gyoza!). After 30 years of business Utsunomiya became known for its delicious gyoza, and AQ was at the forefront of that revolution.

In the year 2000, Hisashi and Ayako's daughter Yukie married Albert, a Hungarian-American who worked remotely for an American tech company. Nearing retirement age, they asked him to run the business side of the company for them. Focusing on modern technologies for efficiency and marketing while still keeping the hands-on approach to making delicious gyoza, AQ was able to satisfy hungry customers from Okinawa to Hokkaido and everywhere in between.

In addition to the original hand-made jumbo gyoza still lovingly produced in Hisashi's style, AQ now produces many other sizes and flavors of gyoza and other dumplings at our Utsunomiya plant and our new state-of-the-art production facility in Nikko. Keeping traditional flavors alive while adopting modern standards and technology for quality, AQ nears its 60th year committed to providing delicious gyoza to hungry fans across the nation.
